Libraries and Research Facilities

A workshop's success is often contingent on the qualities of its libraries and other research facilities. The University of Texas library system consists of over 19 general and specialty libraries, encompassing over 6 million volumes. Students can get on-line listings of library holdings of both books and articles through the UTCAT, a free, 24-hour database, and other electronic databases such as ERIC, MLA, Social Science Citation Index, etc. Participants in the institute will enjoy authorized access to the UT library, the sixth largest public collection in the United States. Since the UTNIF is the only institute sponsored by the University of Texas, it is the only Austin area institute able to provide this service. Students must complete the application procedure at least two weeks prior to the beginning of their institute to receive library privileges. Students will also have access to some of the best specialty libraries in the country. Individual events participants will have use of both UT's Fine Arts Library, argued by many as the best West of New York City, and the UT Individual Events Teams private collection, a collection of new and specially selected texts unparalleled in collegiate ranks. Debaters researching the current topic will receive tutorials in the use of UT's state of the art research technology.

UT's Lyndon Baines Johnson School of Public Affairs houses one of the country's most extensive collections in public policy as well as the official LBJ Museum and library.
